| Google+ trends: take a global landmarks tour with Google Maps, Flickr launches new uploader Apr 26th 2012, 09:24 AFP Relax News – 2 hrs 4 mins ago Yahoo!-owned image hosting site Flickr has announced a major new feature that makes it easier and quicker to upload photos onto the site. The new uploader features drag-and-drop uploading, image previews, easy title editing, photo tagging and a huge improvement in upload speed (up to 60% faster for some international users). Google+ users are happiest about Flickr's new file size limits that let Pro users upload files up to 50MB in size (previously 20MB) and free users upload photos up to 30MB (previously 15MB) in size. "Good to see the competition is on, bringing some new stuff to the market for photographers," say G+'ers. Google has also been busy with updates on its Google Maps site and Plussers are linking to news articles about the updates. Google announced that it was launching 3D photo tours of more than 15,000 popular global landmarks. "To produce these photo tours, we use advanced computer vision techniques to create a 3D experience from public, user-contributed Picasa and Panaromio photos. We start by finding clusters of overlapping photos around major landmarks. From the photos, our system derives the 3D shape of each landmark and computes the location and orientation of each photo. Google Maps then selects a path through the best images, and adds 3D transitions to seamlessly guide you from photo to photo as if you're literally flying around the landmark and viewing it from different perspectives," explained Google on its Lat Long Blog. The company also revealed that it had added 45° imagery for 19 cities including Avignon, France; Rotterdam, Netherlands; and Miami, Florida. Google+ users are talking about the Champions League semi finals match between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich and arguing about which team will win the finals: Bayern Munich or Chelsea. "#Trending is #trending" joke Plussers who are bemused that the term has entered Google+'s trends. "That's so #meta." iPhone is also back in Google+'s most talked about topics as social network users post links to articles about the Apple-made device.
