Google+ trends: Android fans await Samsung's next-gen Galaxy
May 3rd 2012, 09:50

Android fans on Google+ are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Samsung's next generation Galaxy device.

The device (which is largely rumored to be the long-awaited Samsung Galaxy III smartphone) is due to be unveiled during Samsung's Unpacked event, which takes place at 7 PM UK time on May 3.

A debate is raging on Google+ and the tech blogs about which platform is the king of all smartphones in the US: Apple or Android.

While current estimates from market researchers including comScore and NPD state that Android is well ahead in terms of market share, TechCrunch's MG Siegler argues that "Actual sales data from the three largest carriers in the U.S. doesn't seem to back up the comScore and NPD numbers."

Google+'ers are also deliberating over the release date of Apple's next generation iPhone. Some say it will be announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June while others think the company will hold off until October to make its announcement.

Plussers are complaining that Apple is rejecting apps that use cloud storage service Dropbox because they link to out-of-app purchases.

"#Apple is being, well, apple again. #Apps are being rejected because they use #dropbox interface for out of app purchases "say G+'ers, while others add, "Now, that's a walled garden. You can't even peek out :("

In other Apple news, Plussers are sharing a video featuring former Apple CEO Steve Jobs playing Franklin Delano Roosevelt in an in-house "takeoff" of Apple's iconic 1984 Macintosh TV ad.

On a more humorous note, Google Plussers are going dance party crazy, posting the weirdest animated GIFs and photos of babies, kids, cats, Batman, policemen and cartoon characters dancing.

The top 5 most talked about topics on Google+ on May 3 at 7:30 AM GMT are:

  1. Android
  2. #Danceparty
  3. Apple
  4. Dropbox
  5. Nicolas Sarkozy
