| 'Best of Twitter' lands in inboxes as a weekly digest email May 15th 2012, 14:01 AFP Relax News – 4 hrs ago Twitter is going old school, hoping to entice users back onto its site with a weekly email summary full of relevant and interesting tweets and content from the social network. The weekly email digest will start arriving in users' inboxes over the next few weeks and will contain Tweets and stories shared by people they are connected to on Twitter. "This new email digest also features the most engaging Tweets seen by the people you follow, even if you don't follow those who wrote them," said Othman Laraki, Director, Growth and International at Twitter in a May 14 blog post. "You can see who from your network retweeted or favorited these Tweets and click 'View details' to retweet, favorite, reply or view the conversation around them." The emails will feature similar content to that found under the the newly updated Discover tab on Twitter -- 140 character missives plus excerpts from online articles that have been tweeted by contacts. The purpose of the emails is to redirect users back onto the site so they can finish reading the stories they are interested in, however, microbloggers can also add to the discussion by tweeting directly from the email.
VentureBeat reports that "Twitter's inbox project is a product of the Summify team, which joined Twitter after an acquisition in January. Since Summify's mission was all about this kind of culling and curation of web-based information based on the interest level of your social graph, it makes sense that the team would build something similar for Twitter."
